How to Mine Folm Coin with AMD or Nvidia

What is Folmcoin?

Folm coin is a new crypto coin using the PHI algorithm. Following the various problems with the developers attitude with LUX coin, this bloggers faith in the coin is waning a little, so a new coin on PHI is very welcome right now. Folm coin is so new right now that it’s not on any operating exchanges. Trade in the discord channel shows sellers are trying to move it for about $1.50 per coin- although i don’t see many buyers at that rate.

Mining any coin that is not on any exchanges is of course super risky, as you could well end up with nothing except an electric bill. However we all know that with crypto, with risk cometh reward (sometimes). If Folm does hit some exchanges, it will likely push up in value to at least a few dollars, as investors buy up coins for masternodes.

Edit: FOLM is now trading on an exchange here.

So, before I talk about mining too much, here is the basic information:

Name: Folmcoin, Ticker: FLM
Total Supply – Until 2050 22M pow
Algo: PHI1612
Block time: = 120 sec, Block size: 4MB

How to Mine Folmcoin with AMD:

To mine Folm with AMD, you’re going to need first need to download the wallet, or generate an online wallet.

Once you have a wallet, and more importantly an address, the next thing is to download the miner from here. The password for the file is elbandiminer

Now you need to pick a pool. There are lots of options, altminer.net generally offers a good hashrate and the best support.

Next you need to create a BAT file. Or just download mine from here.

  • Create a new folder somewhere, name it start  (or whatever you like, it doesn’t matter), and unzip the contents of the miner’s ZIP file you downloaded into it. The password is elbandiminer if you need it.
  • In that folder, right click on some white space, choose new, then text document. Rename that text document to whatever you like, it doesn’t matter what. I called mine Start.
  • Now, open the new text document, and in it paste:

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100

sgminer.exe -k phi -o stratum+tcp://eu1.altminer.net:1109 -u walletaddress -p c=FLM -I 20 –gpu-platform 1 2>log.txt

Now go to save, change file type to all, and save it as start.bat. You should now be able to just double click your bat file to start the miner.

Note that the dashes should always be the sort dashes, copying and pasting may not work as wordpress likes to turn short dashes into long dashes. Also note that the string –gpu-platform 1 may also need to be switched to –gpu-platform 1 or –gpu-platform 0 in some computers. If your miner just instantly crashes, this is probably what you need to change.

That should be it, you should see your miner just start running. If you have trouble, see the notes and troubleshooting info at the bottom of the article.

How to Mine Folmcoin with Nvidia:

To mine Folm with Nvidia, you’re going to need first need to download the wallet, or generate an online wallet.

Once you have a wallet, and more importantly an address, the next thing is to download the miner from here. You will need to create a new folder (give in a name like CCMiner), and unzip the contents of the file into the new folder. If you cannot open the 7z file, you need to download and install winRAR first.

Now you need to pick a pool. There are lots of options, pool.coin-miners.info seems to have a good hashrate. You can probably find a 0% fee pool at this stage if you look around.

Next you need to create a BAT file. Or download one ready to go here.

  • In the folder you unzipped the miner into, right click on some white space, choose new, then text document. Rename that text document to whatever you like, it doesn’t matter what. I called mine Start.
  • Now, open the new text document, and in it paste:

ccminer-x64.exe -a phi -o stratum+tcp://eu1.altminer.net:1109 -u YOURWALLETADDRESS.rigname -p c=flm -R 5

Now go to save, change file type to all, and save it as start.bat. You should now be able to just double click your bat file to start the miner.

Troubleshooting, tuning, and notes:

  • The command ––gpu-platform 1 is necessary for AMD cards on most newer systems, without it the miner will just crash to desktop. I’ve found that with some recent AMD drivers I had to use gpu-platform 2 instead.  The correct syntax for this is with the two short dashes before it, if you try to run it with one dash or one longer dash then the miner will give an error. Getting this wrong leads to Unexpected extra command line arguments error in the log file. When you copy and paste my text, it may or may not copy and paste the two dashes correctly and will probably paste longer dashes. Manually make sure there are two short dashes before the gpu-platform command, otherwise it won’t work.
  • PHI mining is much more core speed dependent than other miners. If you want to overclock your cards, focus on pushing core speed rather than memory.
  • Windows Defender or other antivirus  may delete the .exe file, in which case your BAT wont work. Make sure the files are whitelisted on your antivirus. I had to disable Windows Defender in the registry to get it to stop deleting my .exe file.
  • SGMiner takes a lot longer to give you information than other mining software. Just wait, it may take a couple of minutes, but as long as the command prompt box is visually open, it’s working on starting. You only have a problem if it closes.
  • On one of my rigs, it would randomly crash out without an error, and the log showed it found graphics cards correctly, and didn’t give an error log before closing. Creating a new windows user and trying again fixed that problem.

Expected PHI Hash Speeds @ Stock Speeds:

  • RX580 15MHs
  • RX480 14MHs
  • Vega 56 25MHs
  • Vega 64 30MHs
  • GTX 1080Ti 30MHs
  • GTX1080 24MHs
  • GTX 1070 20 MHs
